The Emotional Health CBT Clinic has been sharing its expertise through training since its foundation in 1972 at the Montreal General Hospital. We are proud to offer expert CBT training to the following groups:
- Psychologists and psychotherapists wanting to specialize in CBT
- Applicants to the Order of Psychologists of Quebec (OPQ) permit, either to applicants from outside of Quebec who are applying through equivalency; or those with a different background applying for the psychotherapy permit.
- Health professionals: medical doctors, nurses, etc.
- Graduate students from the four Montreal Universities as well as other provinces and the United States. We have not yet had trainees affiliated with Universities or Health Institutions from outside of North America, but would welcome this opportunity.
Our training program has evolved considerably over the years, under the co-leadership of psychologists Dr. Luisa Cameli and Debra Gartenberg, M.A. Our Standard Program includes:
- Weekly one-hour seminars on specific topics. Here is our schedule for 2024-2025.
- Weekly two-hour group supervision.
- Weekly individual supervision, depending on the caseload.
- Providing CBT for different presenting problems based on an intern’s specific interests and with ad-on based on client needs (ACT, DBT, UP or positive psychology).
- Taking part in the intake evaluation of new clients to evaluate suitability for CBT. The intake evaluation is not necessarily diagnostic in nature, but does rely on solid knowledge of the DSM.
- There is a possibility of co-leading workshops and/or of observing therapy with a senior therapist.
Our team of six supervisors is warm, caring and has competence in CBT and supervision. We believe in supervision that is tailored to the needs and growth of each student, which do evolve over the course of training.
The fact that each client undergoes an intake evaluation prior to being assigned is a key advantage that allows us to assign clients in the most ethical manner such that the complexity of the case matches the intern’s level of competency. In addition, it allows us to assign cases based on the needs and preferences of both client and intern.
