Build a life of wellness and resilience
Did you know that there is a field of psychology devoted to wellness? It is called Positive Psychology and was started in 1998 by Dr. Martin Seligman.
Until then, research had focused almost exclusively on the treatment of mental illness. Positive psychology is based on the scientific study of optimism, wellbeing, happiness, purpose and flourishing.
For instance, 5 factors have been identified that contribute to happiness (the PERMA model): Positive experiences, engagement, quality relationships, meaning, and accomplishments.
Let one of our Canadian Certified Counsellors (CCC) help you build a future of wellness and resilience. "The best way to predict the future is to create it" - Abraham Lincoln

Why see a Counsellor and not a psychotherapist or psychologist?
A parallel can be made to medicine, where both general practitioners (GPs) and specialists are essential and differ in training and expertise. Counsellors, psychotherapists, and psychologists all hold a graduate degree, but counsellors have extensive training in the more general skills of active listening, reflecting and clarification, whereas psychotherapists and psychologists have additional training and the legal right to treat specific psychological disorders.
In brief, Counsellors provide help to improve wellness, enhance fulfilment, implement healthy habits, and provide support. They do not treat mental illness or psychological distress per se, or aim to change psychological function. Counsellors use counselling expertise, psychoeducation and the teaching of specific tools and skills.
What are the qualifications of the Counsellors at the clinic?
It is important when working with a counsellor to know the credentials of the therapist, as the title of "counsellor" or "therapist" is not legislated, meaning that anyone can use the title (this differs from the titles of "psychologist" or "psychotherapist", which fall under the oversight of professional orders).
At our clinic, all of our Counsellors have a Master's degree in Counselling and are accredited by the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. The approach used for counselling is based on cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Positive Psychology.
What is the process to see a Counsellor?
The first step is to make an appointment for an evaluation of your needs with one of our evaluating psychologists or psychotherapists. Based on the assessment and the documents that you will be asked to complete; you will be assigned to the Counsellor that the Clinic Director believes will best meet your needs.
Please note that if the Clinic Director believes that the services of a psychotherapist or psychologist are needed and that those of a Counsellor would not be appropriate in your case, we will inform you and assign you to one of our psychotherapists or psychologists.
The fee to see a Counsellor is $190 per session (paid by Interac e-transfer only), with a 20$ extra fee for all evening sessions (after 5pm).
