At a time when CBT was not yet well-known, Dr. Michael Spevack was a pioneer by establishing our Clinic at the Montreal General Hospital (MGH) in 1972, where it remained for 40 years. Dr. Spevack was well known in the community: he held positions in the Psychology Department and the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University and was a guest speaker at numerous national and international conferences and was a strong presence on Montreal radio. Dr. Spevack was an exceptional mentor to CBT interns throughout his career, including to Dr. Luisa Cameli, whom he appointed, prior to his passing in 2009, as Clinic Director. As his legacy, the clinic continues to provide quality CBT services to the Montreal community and now to other communities, as well as training to interns, and continues to advance research. In 2002, the clinic moved from the MGH to the Queen Elizabeth Health Complex in NDG-Westmount near the MUHC, and in 2022, a second location was added in the Le Plateau borough of Montreal.
Our team
is proud to provide State-of-the Art CBT! This, in part thanks to these
activities that keep us up-to-date and well-informed:
Training the Next Generation
of CBT Therapists
Teaching is one of the very best ways to solidify one's knowledge! Having to explain, demonstrate, and justify treatment strategies to sharp doctoral students strengthens our own knowledge.
These young professionals, currently studying in well recognized and competitive doctoral programs, are reading the most up-to-date literature as part of their training and using best-practice protocols.
Continued Education and Sharing of Knowledge
Several members of our team have University appointments, in addition to working at the clinic, while others have other affiliations. We all attend conferences yearly and the clinic is a place where we share knowledge through workshops, consultations, and peer-supervision.)
We Love Research and New Tools
We welcome opportunities for research. Here are some of our publications:

Currently, we
are collaborating with Dr. Matthias Friedrich, Chief of Cardiovascular Imaging
at the MUHC, on recruitment for a study on heart and brain health in anxiety.

We are also
working to bring virtual reality (VR) technology to the Clinic in 2025 as a
complementary tool in the treatment of phobia, OCD, and other issues.
We hope that you will be part of our
history!
